Cats and thorns

Cats generally have no problem with thorny shrubs, as long as there is enough space between the low branches and the ground for them to walk and lie down comfortably underneath.

There is no reason to avoid thorny shrubs for fear that they might hurt your cat: cats are very intelligent and cautious animals.

However, prickly ground cover plants can be unpleasant for cats’ paws. It is therefore best to plant them in areas of your garden where your cat is not expected to spend much time.

If you are looking for plants that are completely thornless, strawberry and blueberry plants are ideal choices.
